“This is what the LORD says- your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you what is best for you, who directs you in the way you should go.” (Isaiah 48:17)

JESUS' Second Burial Cloth part 1  #178
© March 28, 2005 Joe Buckeye, OK to forward intact

John 20:6-7
tells about another cloth used for Jesus' dead body.

King James Version: "Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen cloths lie, and the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen cloths, but wrapped together in a place by itself."

Amplified Bible: "Then Simon Peter came up, following him, and went into the tomb, and saw the linen cloths lying there. But the burial napkin (or kerchief) which had been around Jesus' head, was not lying with the other linen cloths, but was [still] rolled up - wrapped round and round - in a place by itself."

Jewish people were the only ones who immediately covered the faces of people whose bodies had just died. This was done to help the family and close friends have less stress by not seeing the face which usually had unpleasant expression.

The face cloth was much smaller than our bath towels, but larger than our hand towels. It was simply draped over the head hanging down in the front and back. Jesus body died on a cross, so the Jews lifted up a face cloth on a long stick to cover his head immediately. After His body was left hanging to impress the public with fear of Rome and after His body was moved to the tomb, the cloth was removed and no longer used.

It was replaced by a huge piece of cloth specially woven for burial use which covered from His feet up his back, over His head, and down His front to His feet. This was the burial shroud which, if Jesus body had been standing, would have draped over His head just as the face cloth did, but all the way down in front and back.

So now you know there was a second burial cloth for Jesus and you know what it was. You are probably wondering if it still exists like the Shroud of Turin. You want to know if there is historical and scientific evidence. The answers are, "Yes, Yes, and Yes."

Please forward this to everyone.

Thanks, Joe Buckeye (McCullough 4-4-1)
